Here’s Sam Finley of Simpsonville, SC proudly displaying a copy of Fantastic Four #1, 1961 he had bought Saturday. On Saturday I heard the story of a young man walking into this show with this comic and a few other others. I asked David Hinson and Rick Fortenberry what the story was and they told me that various dealers in the room had made offers of up to $4,000 but the young man wanted more. Finally the Fantastic Four #1 made its way to the back of the room where Sam Finley was and Sam made a suitable offer. On Sunday while taking Sam’s picture I asked him about it and he told me the young man was the son of a collector who had lots of high grade Marvels. This collector had been giving some of his lesser grade copies to his son to sell. The son had been selling some of these comics to the folks who promote this show. He approached these folks before this show but was told they were to busy getting ready for the show and couldn’t look at anymore comics just then. So the young man brought this Fantastic Four #1 to the show to shop around. Rick Fortenberry told me even though Sam paid a big price that once the comic is CGC graded he expects Sam to at least double his money. |

David Hinson with a copy of copy of the DC comic Rip Hunter Time Master #1, 1961. DC is good about reprinting their main superhero characters like Superman and Batman in omnibus reprint volumes but DC over the years hasn’t shown much interest in properly reprinting lesser known but still interesting comics like Rip Hunter Time Master. This title has been reprinted but only in softcover with black and white art. DC has lots of interesting science fiction comics like Strange Adventures, Tales Of The Unexpected, Mystery In Space that have never been reprinted in hardcover and in color. I doubt they ever will be. We did get lucky a few years ago when the Adam Strange stories from Mystery In Space were reprinted in color in a hardcover omnibus format. |

I enjoyed visiting with my old friends Dave and Rick and looking forward to seeing them again at a few more comic shows throughout this year and many years to come. |
