Below are photos of advertising and related material that Ernie Gerber sent out to his mail order customers to promote his upcoming magnum opus The Photo-Journal Guide To Comic Books.

Missing Comic Books
Even after five years of photographing comic book covers Ernie still needed a few more for his book. He asked his customers to help with these rare comic books he hadn't found yet. When the book was published there were still some blank spaces to mark the missing covers. He intended to mail out adhesive stickers of the missing covers to his customers to fill in the blanks but he never did. Instead, the fanzine The Comic Book Marketplace took on that task and included in some of their issues throughout the 1990s "Gerber White Space Stickers."
Missing Comic Books
More comic books that were so rare Ernie hadn't found them yet for his book.
Gerber Press Proofs ad
To help offset the enormous expenses of producing the book Ernie marketed several of the pages as collectible press proofs. What Ernie thought was the more popular comic titles had 60 or 80 copies of each page which isn't very many compared to the thousands of comic collectors who might want one. Titles he thought less popular only had 10 or 20 copies made. Lots of opportunity for financial speculation here. The page for the popular pre-Marvel titles Amazing Adventures and Amazing Fantasy only has 20 copies.
1991 Calendar
Ernie also offered a calendar with comic book covers from his book. I think the 1991 edition was the only one ever published.
CBG headline
The leading comic collecting trade journal The Comic Buyer's Guide (CBG) announced the completion of Ernie's book to fandom in 1990 in a front page story.
