Your narrator, the Leader
The Leader attended one of his favorite shows, the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con in Hunt Valley, Maryland 15-17 September 2022. Regrettably, he hadn't been to this show since 2018 due to other commitments and conflicting shows. So he was happy to see his dealer friends again after such a long absence including Art Harvey and his associates, Brendan Faulkner, Leon Vincent, Bill McMahon, Pete Santili. The Leader was also pleased to receive a satisfactory explanation from his favorite comic book dealer Gene Carpenter as to why Gene did not appear at PulpFest and the Virginia Comic Con in August as the Leader had expected.

John Morrow
For many years I've been buying comic book related hardcover books and occasional issues of some magazines like The Jack Kirby Collector, Alter Ego, Retro Fan from TwoMorrows Publishing, but I had never met the owner John Morrow until now.
John Morrow
The softcover book American TV Comics 1940s-1980s I had already bought from my comic book store guy Wayne Zeno but John was giving a 25% discount on this book so I bought another copy. I don't usually buy the magazine Back Issue since it deals with newer post 1970 comics I have no interest in. But, this newest issue John is holding I did buy because it is mostly about the 30th anniversary of the 1989 Batman movie directed by Tim Burton and starring who many fans considered to be an undernourished Batman, Michael Keaton. I saw it in the theater when it was first released and have a copy on 4k Blu-Ray disc. Upon release this movie generated the intense public hysteria that hadn't been seen since The Exoricst in 1973 and Star Wars in 1977.
Bill McMahon
I was glad to see again my old friend Bill McMahon who I last saw at the Williamsburg Film Festival in 2018. That show (since renamed the Williamsburg Nostalgia Fest) and the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con are the only shows I see Bill at. Here Bill is holding a 1950s Dell comic book with the then current movie Tarzan actor and former body bulder Gordon Scott striking a dynamic pose and an old Batman coloring book. If you're a Walt Disney collector check out the figurines behind Bill.
Gordon Scott made a pretty good Tarzan. He succeeded 1940s movie Tarzan Lex Barker and preceded the late 1960s Mike Henry. Scott also played in many Italian "sword and sandal" Hercules type movies in the 1960s. I'm patiently waiting for some of them to come out on Blu-Ray.
Chick Veditz
Chick Veditz presiding over his massive collection of collector non-sports card spread over five tables. I've never seen a dealer anywhere else with this many cards for sale.
Chick Veditz
Chick with two cards showing Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as George Russel. These cards are from a 1950s card set derived from the Davy Crockett mini-series of sorts that was first broadcast in the early 1950s on the ABC network TV series Disneyland.
Larry Caffin
Lone Ranger fan and expert Larry Caffin is a dealer I had never seen at this show before. Larry's holding a softcover book that reprints early issues of the highly collectible magazine TV Guide. That's Dragnet TV show Jack Webb on the cover.
Frank Brevard
I've seen Frank Brevard, owner of Frank's Cool Stuff, many times at the Virginia Comic Con in Richmond but I never had the time to talk to him until now. Frank's an interesting man with a photography background like myself and has lots of "cool stuff" indeed. Notice all the movie pressbooks and other interesting movie and comic book related items on his display wall.
Frank Brevard
I had a few issues of the excellent monster magazine Castle Of Frankenstein when I was a kid and I'm currently trying to put together a complete collection in high grade. It's hard to find these old magazines in nice shape on ebay or at the shows. The cover of Frank's copy of #19 at far left features the Cyclops from The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad. The #20 at far right shows the Venusian Ymir monster from 20 Million Miles To Earth Both those movies had special effects by Ray Harryhausen. The #11, 1967 with Star Trek's Mr. Spock on a vivid green cover is the most expensive of the run. If you look at the list of back issues for sale in old issues of this magazine from the 1970s you find out this issue was always sold out even back then. Here's a closer look at it.
Frank Brevard
Frank with an extremely rare copy of the paperback book Rage from 1977 by Stephen King writing under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Frank explained to me that King's agent in those days didn't want the market to be flooded with Stephen King books so he advised King to write some books under another name for awhile. These Bachman books are in high demand by King collectors which explains Frank's asking price of $2,500. Frank told me if he dosen't sell this book at his next couple of shows he will just retire it to his personal library.
Leon Vincent
Here's Leon Vincent, owner of Artistic Soul Studio in Bowling Green, Kentucky with his usual assortment of vintage movie posters and lobby cards. I always see Leon at this show and the Williamsburg Nostalgia Fest in Virginia.
Leon Vincent
Leon with some lobby cards from the movie The Buccaneer, a 1958 remake of a 1938 film both directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The 1958 version starred Yul Brynner as French pirate Jean Lafitte and Charlton Heston as Andrew Jackson. The top card shows Yul Brynner (with hair) at right sword fighting a bad guy. The bottom card shows Charlton Heston rallying his troops against an invading British army at the Battle of New Orleans.
If this movie is ever released on Blu-Ray I will buy it.
Leon Vincent
Leon with an old movie program of Gone With The Wind.
