Warren with the DC comic Showcase #25, 1960 with a eye catching dinosaur cover drawn by DC stalwart Joe Kubert. After four Showcase appearances Rip Hunter got his own comic title that ran for 29 issues, 1961 - 1965. Those issues have been reprinted by DC but in the usual softcover volumes with black and white art. Having DC reprint these stories properly in hardcover and in color is probably never going to happen. Warren asked me if I wanted to see something really rare and he pulled out of his bag tucked under the table this copy of the DC comic The Brave And The Bold #25, 1959 featuring the first appearance of the Suicide Squad. The Suicide Squad was released as a movie in 2021 so I suppose the price on this comic has been climbing since then. |

I last saw Wayne Brown of Smasher's Comics at the Savannah Mega Con in 2021. He is another of the Leader's favorite comic book dealers below the age of 40. Here's Wayne with two desirable issues of the Marvel comic Tales Of Suspense. #63, 1965 has a Jack Kirby story and Captain America story. As far as I know this is the first comic to retell Captain America's origin since his debut in Captain America Comics #1, 1941. The #49, 1964 also has a Jack Kirby cover. The story with Iron Man fighting the Angel is drawn by Steve Ditko who only drew three Iron Man stories in this title, #47, #48, #49. Iron Man's regular artist in these days was Don Heck. This #49 issue has extra value becomes it is the first time characters from The X-Men comic crossed over into another Marvel comic. Another tidbit of value could be added since this is the first "Tales Of The Watcher" story which continued as a series for several more issues. |

Wayne with Fantastic Four #26, 1964. This issue with its spectacular Jack Kirby cover and story art is the continuation from #25 of the longest battle in the Silver Age between the Thing and the Hulk. Wayne reminded me that I had already taken his picture of him with Fantastic Four #25 at the Savannah Mega Con, so now the circle is complete. |
