I originally wrote this article on the Marvel and Charlton science fiction / fantasy stories drawn by Steve Ditko for The Comic Book Marketplace or CBM, published by Gary Carter. Like all CBM writers, I wrote it for free since Gary couldn't afford to pay. That was ok. The honor and pleasure of sharing my affection for Steve Ditko's work with other fans was payment enough.
However, before the article was published CBM and Gary were folded into the publishing company owned by Robert M. Overstreet who is known as the publisher of the annual Comic Book Price Guide. Gary told me that CBM was now discontinued but it would be reincarnated as Overtreet's Advanced Collector and my Ditko article would be the lead article in the first issue of the new magazine. Also, the new publisher paid $75.00 for articles. I had no objection to adding some money to the honor and pleasure.
