Your narrator, the Leader
The Leader attended the Captain’s Comic Expo in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 21 - 23 February 2020. He enjoyed attending this show for the first time last year and wanted to pay a return visit. He enjoyed seeing his dealer friends Chris Foss, Mario Russom and Rick Fortenberry who always setup at this show. The Leader was especially pleased to see his dealer friend Dave Hinson at this show who missed last year’s show. The dealer of course also enjoyed talking with Atlas and Marvel artist Vic Carrobotta and firming up plans for Vic to undertake another pre-Marvel comic cover reproduction for the Leader.

Dealer Setup Day Friday 21 February 2020
Mario Russom
Here’s the grunt work of hauling in your heavy boxes and display walls and setting them up that the customer’s don’t usually see. Like last year, Mario Russom from Atlanta, Georgia was the first of my familiar dealers to arrive and begin setting up. He’s just about done now except for putting his best comics on the display wall which will be done tomorrow morning before the show opens.
Daniel Murphy, Rick Fortenberry, Tom Raupp
Here’s Charlotte Comic Con co-promoter (with Dave Hinson) Rick Fortenberry (green shirt) with his partner Daniel Murphy talking with another dealer Tom Raupp who I had never met before. I’ll see Rick a few more times before the year is out.
Chris Foss
Veteran South Carolina dealer Chris Foss near the other end of the dealer’s room setting up his display wall. Chris had the best selection of Golden Age and Silver Age comics at this show. His inventory is roughy comparable to the Leader’s favorite comic book dealer, Gene Carpenter.
Tony Hines
Behind Chriss Foss was Tony Hines that I’ve see at other shows but not this show before. He always has interesting Silver Age comics as we will see tomorrow.
Richard Morgan
I’ve seen Richard Morgan at several shows over the years. He was set up at the other end of the room next to Chris and Tony. Richard always has interesting toys and collectibles besides comics and we’ll see tomorrow what he brought to this show.
Dave Hinson, Daniel Murphy, Rick Fortenberry
I’ve known Dave Hinson for about 23 years now but I don’t see him at many shows anymore since he doesn’t do as many. I won’t see him again until HeroesCon in Charlotte this June. Dave arrived late in the afternoon and Rick’s partner Danny helped Dave set up his tables and display wall.
Mario Russom
It’s past 7 p.m. now and everybody is just about set up. Mario spent the time after he was finished setting up scouting the dealer’s room for new merchandise. Here he is pricing some comics he had just bought. He’s bundled up snugly in warm clothing since it snowed yesterday and the big loading doors have been open most of the day letting in the cold air. But enough with all this grunt work; time now for the Leader to go out to dinner now with Rick Fortenberry and Daniel Murphy at our favorite Italian restaurant in Mount Pleasant, La Pizzeria.
