Your narrator, the Leader
The Leader attended Dragon Con in Atlanta, Georgia on 29, 30 and 31 August 2013. He went mostly to visit his relatives in Atlanta because he suspected Dragon Con was really not his kind of show. The Leader's suspicions were confirmed. This show is mostly concerned with modern day television and movies and video games all of which are of no interest for him. The Leader only likes pre 1980 popular culture. Also the logistics of this show are troubling with the events spread over four hotels and the dealers' room at another location. Plus the tumultuous hordes of people attending this show are also not the Leader's cup of tea. Still, the Leader did have some fun and to took photos of what cultural artifacts he did find interesting.

Cuthania Corner dealer with bust of H.P. Lovecraft.
Arkham Bazaar
Another H.P. Lovecraft dealer with a display case of busts of Lovecraft and monsters from his Cthulhu Mythos stories.
Larry Smith Books
Larry Smith Books employee with books about Playboy magazine cartoonist Doug Sneyd and pulp magazine publisher and UFO expert Ray Palmer.
Larry Smith Books
Two cool books about 1930s / 1940s pulp magazine artists: Frank R. Paul Master of Science Fiction Art and The Alluring Art of Margaret Brundage.
McFarland Books
McFarland Books in North Carolina specializes in esoteric popular culture books. I've never seen them set up at a convention before.
McFarland Books
Beth Cox of McFarland Books with paperback edition of Comic Books and the Cold War that comic book fan the Leader may have to read someday.
Galaxy Press
John Goodwin of Galaxy Press with Frank Frazetta print based on the stories of science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. John told me that he was able to keep the original Frazetta paintings done under commission that these prints were made from. Frazetta usually kept for himself his original paintings. John and I briefly discussed our favorite sci-fi authors and he encouraged me to check out L. Ron Hubbard whom I've never yet read.
Galaxy Press
John Goodwin with another Frank Frazetta print.
Reel Art Collectibles
Cory Glaberson of Reel Art Collectibles sets up at many collector shows and I've seen him before at the Chiller Theater show in New Jersy, where I bought some original magazine sci-fi art two years ago. Cory always has a great selection of vintage science fiction and horror movie photos and posters.
Reel Art Collectibles
Cory Glaberson with nice lobby card from the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds.
Crazy Ed Comics
Here's Crazy Ed with two Silver Age Marvel comics the Leader likes, Sgt. Fury #13 and Thor #126. Ed also sets up at the Baltimore Comic Con every year.
Marvel & DC velcro patches
I thought these velcro patches of Marvel and DC Silver Age comic book heroes were pretty neat.
Marvel comic book logos of Hulk, Thor, Iron Man
These are large posters reproducing the cover logos used on Marvel comic books in the 1960s. Each Marvel comic in those days had a logo of the comic's main character featured in the upper left hand corner of the front cover.
Tee Shirts
Some interesting tee shirts featuring a monster from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, the 1970s Charlton Heston science fiction movie Soylent Green and the 1960s Star Trek episode "The Trouble With Tribbles."
Batman and Superman bath robes
Star Trek prints
This display had the best Star Trek color prints.
Star Trek prints
Here's a nice print of the original 1960s Star Trek cast. The Leader didn't care for the later Star Trek TV versions so he never photographs those up close, with one exception; see the next photo at right.
Star Trek prints
This closeup is from a post 1960s Star Trek episode I presume. But it shows what appears to be the big circular time travel machine called the Guardian of Forever which was featured in the Leader's favorite 1960s Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever." Does anybody know if the Guardian was used in a later Star Trek episode?
