Charles F. Miller with Dell Mapback The Cavegirl |
|
Here's rare book dealer and science fiction expert Charles Miller with a paperback Dell Mapback edition of The Cavegirl by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Miller was 50% of the noted sci-fi & fantasy speciality book publisher Underwood-Miller 1976-1994. Chuck Miller and the Leader go back a long way. I used to read Chuck's "Year In Review" sci-fi book articles in the trade journal Comic Buyer's Guide aka CBG in the 1980s. As a comic book and magazine dealer in 1997 - 1998 I saw Chuck frequently at the Tyson's Corner comic show in Wash. D.C. and some of the Baltimore collectibles shows. Chuck bought a cheap Adam Bedside Reader magazine from me once at a show circa 1998. The magazine was full of nobody pulp authors that normally Chuck wouldn't bother with so why did he buy it? I figured Chuck knew it had a famous author under a pseudonym but didn't feel obliged to tell me. |

Magazine dealer Brendan Faulkner with a rare 1973 magazine The Normal Lovecraft. The Leader inquired about the unusual title and was told the magazine was published to demonstrate that H.P. On Brendan's display wall is a run of one of the best monster fan magazines Fantastic Monsters Of The Films published by Paul Blaisdell and Bob Burns. Also a few issues of a James Warren / Forrest Ackerman magazine Spaceman including the 1965 Yearbook with the Wally Wood cover. |

Ron Ely is best known from his 1966 Tarzan TV series and the 1975 movie Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze. I talked to him briefly in the hotel lobby the first night of the show and asked him about 2 old TV shows I had seen him in; a 1960s episode of Thriller and a 1970s episode of Marcus Welby M.D. He remembered the details of each. The next day I got him to sign a photo for me from his Tarzan TV show. I found Mr. Ely to be an urbane, polished gentleman. However I'm 6'3" tall and it is slightly disconcerting to have to look up at a man who is taller than you. |

Martin Grams Jr. is an expert on old time radio and television shows and has written several books on those subjects. He is also the promoter of the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con. The Leader purchased Marty's definitive Twilight Zone book at the Con 2 years ago and last saw him at the Williamsburg Film Festival in March 2012. Marty has a contract to write books on the Irwin Allen produced 1960s science fiction TV shows. He finished his Time Tunnel book in time for this year's show and autographed a copy for the Leader. Marty says he is working on a book about the Cheyenne TV show and plans to have star Clint Walker at the Nostalgia Con next year. |
