Your narrator, the Leader
The Leader attended the Williamsburg Film Festival in Virginia on March 5 and 6, 2014. Normally he only goes for one day but this year his favorite movie poster dealer, Art Harvey from New Jersey, was making his first visit to this show and the Leader wanted more time to spend more time looking over Art's inventory. Also, the Leader was pleased to have his favorite comic book collecting friend, Jim Frost go with him on March 5. On March 6 the Leader's friend Jack Price of Suffolk, Virginia attended the show and the Leader was glad to speak with him briefly. In previous years the Leader and Jack travelled to the show together but haven't been able to do that recently. As always, the Leader was pleased to see his favorite comic book dealer Gene Carpenter who always sets up at this show. The Leader was also pleased to visit with old friends he has met in past visits to this show, Gary Williams, Chuck Rogers and C.P. Lockhart.

Kevin Hodge
Here's writer Kevin Hodge of Mustang, Oklahoma, selling his new Western book Jackson's Revenge. Mr. Hodge told me he travels extensively in the West and any locations noted in his book are described accurately. His next book due out now is Tale Of A Gunfighter.
Chuck Rogers
Chuck Rogers with John Wayne Adventure Comics #22, 1953. I last saw Chuck at my favorite convention, the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con in 2013.
Chuck Rogers
Chuck Rogers with two interesting insert style movie posters from movies I like, Hud and How The West Was Won.
Art Harvey, Robert J. Lentz
Here's movie poster dealer Art Harvey of New Jersey getting set up on March 5 before most of the customers arrived. His helper Robert J. Lentz of Filmbobbery.com is sitting in the background sorting movie still photos. I always enjoy talking to Art and Bob about old movies. Their knowledge abut them easily rivals and frequently surpasses that of the Leader himself. I last saw them at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con in 2013.
Art Harvey
Art Harvey still getting his movie posters set up. The raised area behind Art is where convention guests Julie Adams and Robert Fuller were located on March 6 to sign autographs. Art brought plenty of posters and photos of them for customers to buy and get signed. Notice the Robert Fuller movie poster Return Of The Seven behind Art.
Ron Adams
Here's Ron Adams on March 5 getting set up for the show. Ron is one of the promoters of the monster fan convention Monster Bash held in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania each year. This is the first time the Monster Bash people set up at the Williamsburg Film Festival. The Leader has never been to Monster Bash but he hopes to go one year.
Jim Frost
Jim Frost and the Leader arrived at the show in the early afternoon of March 5 before the dealer room opened to the public. Dealer Gene Carpenter was delayed by traffic but finally arrived. While Gene was getting set up for the show Jim looked over his Atlas horror, science fiction, war and romance comic books. Jim and I last saw Gene at the Virginia Comic Con in Richmond November 2013. Here's Jim showing off the Atlas comic World Of Fantasy #2, 1956 with a nice Al Williamson illustrated cover story "Inside The Tunnel."
Jim Frost, Lewis Forro, Gene Carpenter
Jim is holding the Atlas comic Yellow Claw #1, 1956 and Gene is holding the #3 issue. The Leader is wearing his Spider-Man shirt made from the original art of Amazing Fantasy #15 that the Leader copied on his trip to Library of Congress where the original art of that book is stored.
Gary Williams
Gary Williams of Mechanicsville, Virginia makes replicas of Western clothes and guns. I last saw Gary visiting the Virginia Comic Con in Richmond November 2013. At this year's Williamsburg show he was dressed as a cowboy. The whip he's holding goes with his Indiana Jones costume.

The Hyco Kid
I first met Michael J. Lair a.k.a. U.S. Marshal the Hyco Kid at last's year's Williamsburg show. Here's the Kid at Art Harvey's tables brandishing what the Kid told me are his two real Colt 45 pistols, from about the year 1901.
C.P. Lockhart & Sam Austill
I first met C.P. and Sam at last year's Williamburg show. I just love the weather-beaten cowboy faces these guys have. This year they had some Roy Rogers comic books for sale. Sam knew Roy Rogers and he and C.P. told me interesting stories about the history of the Roy Rogers museum and how it was eventually closed by a lawsuit brought by a family member. All the Rogers memorabalia from the museum was auctioned off in two auctions a few years ago.
Gene Carpenter
The Leader's favorite comic book dealer Gene Carpenter showing off a jewel from his vast inventory of rare comic books: the DC comic More Fun #101 from 1945 featuring the first appearance of Superboy.
Gene Carpenter
First two pages of the first Superboy story from More Fun #101.
Gene Carpenter
At the show Gene purchased a book of movie lobby cards all featuring 1940s movie serials starring Clayton Moore before he became better known as the Lone Ranger on television in the 1950s. Every card was signed by Clayton Moore.
Gene Carpenter & Jack Price
I've known Jack Price of Suffolk, Virginia for about 14 years. He is one of the biggest John Wayne collectors in the country. I've sold him lots of Wayne collectibles over the years and we've made a number of trips together buying magazine collections and attending shows. Gene has been helping him fill in his John Wayne Adventure Comics want list and that's probably what they're talking about here. Gene, Jack and I were last together at the Mid-Atlantic Con in November 2013.

Art Harvey
Art usually doesn't bring comic books to the shows but the Williamsburg show has a Western theme, so Art brought all the Western stuff he could find. Here are some interesting copies of Dell photo covers of Big Valley and Gunsmoke. At this year's show Art sold me complete glossy photo sets of two of my favorite Western movies The Far Country, 1954 with a great photo of the main cast all lined up sitting on their horses and John Wayne's last movie The Shootist, 1976. Near the end of the show I told Art I was looking for photos from the 1960s movie Where It's At starring David Janssen set in Las Vegas. I liked the movie I saw it on TV many years ago and haven't had much luck finding photos from it. The best photo from the movie shows David Janssen sitting in front of Caesar's Palace surrounded by babes in bathing suits. Art looked through his photo books and pulled out a 11" x 14" color lobby card of that exact photo for me. That's why he's my favorite movie poster and photo dealer.
Art Harvey

Art Harvey, Lewis Forro, Jack Price, Gene Carpenter
Four veteran collectors and dealers at Art Harvey's table. Art's helper Bob Lentz snapped the photo using the Leader's camera. Art, Gene and I will be at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con in September 2014. If I can get Jack to go we'll have another group photo made there.
Billy McCrary
This show is the first time I met Billy McCrary of Florence, South Carolina. He had some 16mm film projectors and and a screen and showed old Western movies during the show. The Leader heartily approves of 16mm film. He spent several years shooting lots of it during the 1980s as a motion camera operator for the Air Force.
Billy McCrary
This atmospheric shot required some finagling. We wanted to expose for the movie image on the screen and light Billy with a flash without washing out the screen. Billy was a photographer as is the Leader and they worked it out with some help from Bob Lentz holding the flash.
Martin Grams, Jr.
Martin Grams talking with customers behind his tables full of rare and esoteric movies on DVD. Marty promotes the Leader's favorite collector show, the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in Maryland. Marty is also a prolific writer who has written many books on old timey radio and TV shows. Marty confirmed for the Leader that 1960s TV show Cheynne star Clint Walker will be at Marty's 2014 show.
Martin Grams, Jr.
Marty showing off his latest book on old radio shows, Duffy's Tavern. Two copies of his best known book The Twilight Zone are sitting on the box next to him under the Alfred Hithchock book, which he didn't write but was selling at the show. Another book recently written by Marty is visible at the bottom of the table, The Time Tunnel. Marty turns out books so fast it makes the Leader's head spin.
