Clifford D. Simak City Shirt
I first read Clifford D. Simak’s legendary science fiction anthology-novel at my grandmother’s house in Tarrant City, Alabama in the late 1960s. I had ordered it through the mail from Ace Books which was a big paperback publisher in those days. I don’t remember if I had read any Simak stories or novels before City but I fell in love with this wonderful book immediately and it launched me into searching out many more Simak books. Even after all these years City is not only my favorite Simak book but my favorite science fiction book as well. That’s saying something when you’ve been reading sci-fi since the early 1960s like me.
I had this City tribute T-shirt done with the Direct-To-Garment (DTG) process at a local silk sceen company. The colors with DTG are not as rich or bold than you get with silk screening but DTG allows you to print small orders like one shirt. The silk screen company said they could do 71 of these City shirts for me with silk screening for $1150. If I can figure out a way to sell 70 shirts on ebay to get my money back out of the project, I may do that someday. Meanwhile my new shirt will be making its debut at three upcoming shows in September: Dragon Con, Baltimore Comic Con and Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Con. Lots of science fiction fans at those shows so I’m sure to attract some attention.
